Heapful

Our mission is to reshape the food system by upcycling heaps of fresh produce and turn them tasty ingredients and snacks. We've spent oodles of time looking at how our food system works, where it's broken, and how we can fit in to make a difference in making it better. Food surplus comes in many forms, with a large amount of produced as a 'byproduct' of the 'perfect' fruit and veg we expect on supermarket shelves. As a consequence of the way we buy food now, all through the year there are huge gluts of different types of fresh produce at risk of going to waste. Our solution (although not a silver bullet to food surplus by any means), is to take some of those gluts from wholesale markets and packhouses (we'll explain more about them later!) and dehydate them with local partners in London into ingredients. Our project is also set to make passata sauce from gluts of surplus tomatoes in cans. By looking at how we source, produce and deliver our products and where we do things well and where we can do better, we will show that there are better solutions for our food system.
