About HEAR Scholarship Foundation
The HEAR Scholarship Foundation, founded in 2011, is dedicated to supporting high-achieving, low-income students from Chicagoland in their pursuit of higher education. Each year, HEAR enrolls up to 30 students in its College Success Program. This offers each student a renewable $20,000 scholarship, paid directly to college in increments of $5,000 annually for tuition, room, and board. Scholarships are renewable because the foundation believes this fosters greater accountability and sustained support for student success. To-date, over 230 students have enrolled in HEAR’s program. HEAR’s support extends beyond financial aid, offering wraparound services addressing academic, career, and social needs. Scholars are paired with mentors who guide them along their college journey and who act as a cheer-team encouraging and advising them on a regular basis. They also benefit from college and career workshops on skills like interviewing, résumé writing, and networking. Additionally, HEAR connects students with paid internships through partnerships with local organizations, offering practical experience crucial to professional success. Diversity and inclusion are central to HEAR’s mission: around 70% of scholars are first-generation college students, and nearly 90% are from diverse ethnic backgrounds. With students coming from over 80 high schools in the Chicagoland area and attending universities across the country, HEAR has committed more than $4.5 million to scholarships and achieved a remarkable 98% four-year graduation rate—significantly higher than the national average. By supporting HEAR, donors are investing in the next generation of leaders and ensuring access to higher education for students who might otherwise face significant financial barriers. HEAR’s comprehensive approach equips scholars to thrive academically and professionally, preparing them for long-term success and empowering them to give back to their communities.
