HEAT Toronto Overview

A collective of people employed in or catering to the Hospitality Industry, striving to build a better future. The foundation that built the Hotel Engineering/ Facility Managers Association of Toronto (H.E.A.T) started in 1991, when several hotel engineers and maintenance managers, throughout different areas of the city, began to talk amongst themselves about the individual concerns they had in regards to maintaining and improving their respective hotel properties; and they also took the initiative to discuss these concerns with some of their suppliers and contractors. Soon after these discussions were underway, word of these gatherings spread throughout the expanding network. It followed that the idea of having an organized group of hotel engineers and maintenance managers, who could gather and share their experiences and problems, was recognized as the ideal method for improving their property management and maintenance. By late 1992, the ad hoc committee met to discuss their individual recruiting initiatives, goals and objectives (etc.) to form an association. It was eventually agreed that they would move forward with its development. The Hotel Association of Metropolitan Toronto and Ontario Hydro sponsored the shaping of this new association, which ultimately become The Hotel Engineering/Facility Manager’s Association of Toronto, with the acronym “H.E.A.T.” and an original logo design (our new logo was adopted in 2004, designed by Paul Singh, President of HEAT at the time, to reflect the changes in our association). To improve quality and efficiency of property operation of hotels and motels in metropolitan Toronto an interim Executive Committee was formed with the following slate of officers.
