Helium Books

(CLOSED EFFECTIVE 5/1/22) Helium Books enables readers, both public library cardholders and non-cardholders alike, to rent library books online, have them delivered to their residence, and picked up and returned when finished. We provide these full range of services to readers at a minimal cost. In an age of declining readership, we're able to effectively remove obstacles to establishing strong reading habits—too much money and time spent obtaining books—all while providing an optimally convenient experience. Helium Books seeks to transform the way readers get their hands on their next book. By harnessing interconnected communities of local libraries to source books, we effectively act as a liaison between library-owned books and readers. This business model has been tested and has succeeded in other applications, namely food delivery services, such as Madison, Wisconsin-based Eat Street, or more nationally recognized services, such as UberEats. Helium Books can be thought of as the Eat Street or UberEats of books. Unlike food, however, books sourced from libraries need to be returned. We take care of that as well, at no charge to the customer. In addition, with each rental order placed through Helium Books, we pledge to donate not only to the local libraries that make our service possible, but also to local causes, non-profits, and charities working to elevate our communities. Launched in 2021, our Library-as-a-Service and Rotating Library programs, which apply our core competency of book sourcing and delivery to the B2B space, allow schools, learning and recreation centers, and facilities to have easy, convenient access to library materials.
