Helium Networks, a Carnegie Mellon University Spin-off, was a developer of innovative wireless LAN design and maintenance products that provide strong ROI to its users on multiple fronts by simplifying the difficult tasks of designing, configuring, monitoring, and troubleshooting wireless networks. Using Helium’s solutions, engineers drastically reduce the time required to implement and operate Wi-Fi networks and significantly improve the network performance while minimizing the hardware and installation costs. Helium’s solutions are based on a one-of-a-kind and patented (5 issued patents) technology platform developed based on 10 years of experience in designing, deploying, and managing large-scale Wi-Fi networks at Carnegie Mellon University. Helium’s product, the Wireless Recon system enables network engineers and technicians to optimally conduct site surveys, or audit 802.11 a/b/g wireless networks in half the time of traditional site survey and design methods, while automatically collecting the industry’s largest set of real wireless measurements with precise location fingerprint. Wireless Recon is the industry’s most accurate and efficient Wi-Fi site survey and design solution. The company was acquired by SkyMark Software in 2008.
