Hellenic Saltworks S.A.

Hellenic Saltworks S. A. is a Greek State-owned company founded in 1988 with the primary objective of the economic consolidation of the country's viable saltworks, through mechanization and modernization of their operation, in order that the country will soon become at least self-sufficient in terms of its primary salt needs. It consists of 7 saltworks in the areas of Messolonghi, Kitros Pieria, Kalloni Levos, Polichnitos Lesvos, Angelochori Thessaloniki, N. Kessani Xanthi and Messi Komotini. The main activity of the company is the harvesting of salt through salt evaporation and the sale of primary (raw) salt. The areas of the saltworks are primarily areas of environmental interest, and the company's constant aim is to preserve the natural heritage of the saltworks under its ownership. Thus, it is adopting measures to protect the environment, along with policies that will lead to more efficient use of its natural resources.
