My name is Jeannine and I am passionate about breaking the stigma on modern motherhood. Just over a year ago, I found out I was with child during what I considered to be the most inconvenient time of my life. I recently moved my entire life to a brand new city without any friends or family. This adventure was supposed to be the last hurrah of my twenties. I was enrolled to commence a Masters program and extremely excited to write a dissertation based on the unfair market of women’s sports. Two weeks into my move, I discover my pregnancy. My world was turned upside down. I was devastated at the thought of giving up my freedom and my dreams. The idea of motherhood, self-care and success no longer seemed like a plausible situation. I felt as if my only choice was to drop my studies and focus only on my pregnancy. Suddenly my life trajectory was gearing towards a life focused only on my future child. Fast forward many months later, after a lot of hard work and dodging judgement coming from everywhere, this mama is about to graduate and has a beautiful baby boy. A mother can embrace all opportunities and reach for the stars by shattering the ideals of what traditional motherhood dictates. To be a modern mom doesn’t mean you have to be a CEO or a working mom. To be a modern mom simply means YOU MAKE YOUR OWN CHOICES - whatever they may be. It also entails you putting yourself first so you can provide the best care for your family. I realized all of this when I was faced with the difficult decision of the possibility of giving up something I had no desire of losing. Through Hey! Mom, I would like to encourage and empower modern motherhood one beautiful design at a time.
