HFTraining - Human Factors Training & Crew Resource Management

People make mistakes! Not only do we have to accept this fact, we have to be able to deal with it. Our mental and physical actions are determined daily by possible misconduct. Incorrect communication, pride, physical fatigue, stress, upbringing and the manners learned or experienced in childhood are just a small part of possible sources of error that can lead to a dangerous chain of errors. If such a chain of errors is not recognized and broken through at an early stage, catastrophes ensue. During the Apollo program, NASA already had painful experience of what can happen when many different individuals work towards a common goal. Due to the high number of accidents in air traffic in the 1970s, where humans were directly identified as the main cause of accidents, a system was developed in 1979 with the support of NASA, which is intended to help humans to use all available resources in the best possible way to avoid mistakes. In 1981, United Airlines became the first airline to introduce Cockpit Resource Management. A short time later, the flight attendants were integrated into this form of cognitive training: Crew Resource Management had emerged. Over the years, however, it has become clear that an aircraft crew does not only include the pilots and flight attendants. Technicians, controllers and everyone who is directly involved in flight operations are now among the people who should benefit from this training. The generic term for this is Human Factors Training.
