Health Information Management Association of Australia Limited (HIMAA) Overview

The Health Information Management Association (HIMAA) is the leading association for Health Information Professionals, including • Health Information Managers (HIMs) • Clinical Coders (CC) • Clinical Documentation Specialists (CDS) HIMAA promotes and supports health information management professionals as the universally recognised specialists in health information at all levels of the healthcare system. We do this through positioning and advocacy, accreditation, education and training, certification and credentialing, quality standards, publications and resources, and HIMAA membership networking activities at local and national levels, including an annual national conference of international standing. The association has a number of specialist committees with the remit to education and develop industry expertise in research, education, and coding amongst other areas. Special Interest Groups (SIGs) have been established to share knowledge and build best practice amongst HIM Professionals, while State Branches of HIMAA conduct social and state level professional development opportunities. The Health Information Management Association of Australia (HIMAA) owns two professional journals which are an excellent resource for Health Information Managers, Clinical Coders and all engaged in the management of health information. Both journals are available free to members, and via subscription to non-members and organisations including universities, hospitals, research centres, government Departments of Health and other libraries throughout the world. Health Information Management Journal (HIMJ) is a fully peer-reviewed journal of international standing and influence.
