From the very beginning, HipHopCanada has been focused on promoting Canadian hip-hop and providing dedicated avenues of support for the thousands of members of the continuously growing hip-hop community. This support and promotion has always been intended for Canada’s international growth and the international consumption of our products but the first challenge was showing Canadians that our hip-hop scene was talented and deserved support from Canadian hip-hop fans. In 2019, names like Drake, The Weeknd, Justin Bieber and Daniel Caesar are well known and Canada is considered by many to be a melting pot of untapped talent continuing to make its mark on music. This is a far cry from when HipHopCanada was originally created but it confirms the growing success of our business model and the growing success and respect for Canada within the music industry. The diversity of the hip-hop culture is reflected by the members of the HipHopCanada team. As both new-comers and old-schoolers, we can provide responsible representation and coherent product promotion to a niche audience. We understand the promotional needs to members of the hip-hop community and strive to provide a service that maintains a professional reputation across the country. Since 2000, HipHopCanada has won several awards and had various notable achievements. In the new millennium, Gigathon Inc. named HipHopCanada as one of Top 5 Websites in their eFair category. During the era of the Canadian Urban Music Awards, the Urban Music Association of Canada (UMAC) nominated HipHopCanada.com a total of 6 times and bestowed the honour of “Best Online Publication” a total of 4 times, including the last year the awards were held. In 2008, HipHopCanada announced the launch of its record label, HipHopCanada Digital, distributed by one of North America’s largest independent firm, E1 Entertainment (formerly KOCH Entertainment Canada).
