Hiriya Recycling Park

The Dan Region Association of Towns for Sanitation operates the Hiriya Recycling Park by receiving daily municipal waste from 25-30 local authorities in Tel-Aviv metropolitan. Among these authorities are 6 member authorities of the association board: Tel Aviv-Yafo, Holon, Ramat Gan, Bat Yam, Bnei Barak and Givatayim. In addition, the serves other authorities and also serves about 30 private contractors. Since the closure of the Hiriya landfill in 1998, the association promotes the development of an industrial park for waste treatment, in the area at the foot of the waste mountain . In the Hiriya recycling park, waste treatment include sorting and separation, and transportation to end facilities. The Hiriya Recycling Park is leading a significant environmental change in the waste management sector in Israel, with its main goals being: 1. Treating municipal waste on its various issues while streamlining and improving the service to local authorities. 2. Development of the recycling park with sorting and separation facilities for recycling, and for energy recovery from waste. 3. Promoting public dialogue and social change through the Center for Environmental Education.
