The Hirsch Foundation for Medical Suspended Animation was founded in 2017 and funds projects in the field of medical research. The foundation’s purpose is to contribute to a long and healthy life, and to prevent life from being shortened by early death.
In order to achieve these goals, the foundation engages in the following activities:
Funding of research projects at universities and private research facilities
Scholarships for researchers and scientists
Organization of scientific events, congresses and meetings
Dissemination of medical knowledge and discoveries
The application of biostasis in medicine, i.e. of methods which reversibly stop biological metabolism, is a core area of research for the foundation. Medical biostasis holds the promise to keep donor organs viable for a long period of time so that they can reach an optimally suitable recipient, or to gain time for care and healing during medical treatment.
