Historisch Goud is onderdeel van de gemeentelijke organisatie van Heerlen. Binnen deze gemeente zijn drie culturele instellingen actief op het gebied van cultuurhistorisch erfgoed. Het betreft twee historische musea - Kasteel Hoensbroek en Thermenmuseum Heerlen - en een regionale archiefdienst: Rijckheyt, centrum voor regionale geschiedenis.
De beide musea maken deel uit van de afdeling Historische Musea. Samen met Rijckheyt vormen zij een cultuurhistorisch bedrijf, Historisch Goud. Gezamenlijk staan zij voor 2000 jaar geschiedenis.
