Hitaji Development Initiative

Founded in 2012, Hitaji works with poor rural women and girls in Migori County to empower them socially and economically through education sponsorships, mentorship, and socio-economic activities. Since its founding, the organization has impacted the lives of more than 1,000 women through training on business growth and provision of a revolving funds. Hitaji places a strong emphasis on health care, educating women and girls on sexual reproductive health, pregnancy, HIV/AIDS, and providing information on related topics. Through the support of Nikumbuke United Soccer, Hitaji has employed soccer league practice sessions and tournaments to advance health education and strengthen economic empowerment activities. It has also directly impacted the lives secondary school students with education scholarship opportunities. The organization in partnership with Rongo University has mentored more than 2,000 students. Hitaji works in collaboration with partners and stakeholders to build the resilience of communities and to help them become self-sufficient.
