HiWire Consortium

The HiWire Consortium is dedicated to the standardization and certification of a new interconnect category, the Active Electrical Cable (AEC). As an alternative to AOCs and DACs, HiWire AECs provide a full solution for layer 1 and 2 interconnect up to 7 meters to deliver persistent and deterministic connectivity necessary for the next generation of hyperscale data centers, enterprise, and telecom markets as the industry moves to 400G and beyond. Unique from other 400G solutions, AECs are copper based and have gearbox, retimer and FEC functionality integrated into the cable. As a result, AECs can speed-shift, mode change between PAM4 and NRZ and have the plug and play reliability of other types of cables such as USB. The HiWire Consortium was founded by 25 members invested in high-speed data center connectivity. Membership represents ODMs, OEMs, Semiconductors, Test and Verification.
