Op 28 Januarie 1935 kom daar in Kimberley ‘n skool tot stand om vir Afrikaanssprekende leerders ‘n tuiste te bied waar hul onbeskaamd hul kultuur kan uitleef en akademiee onderrig, geskoei aan ‘n Christelike karakter en etos, in hul moedertaal kan ontvang.
Die nuwe hoërskool het geopen met 51 leerlinge in st. 7 en st. 8 en vier personeellede. Gedurende die eerste jaar van sy bestaan was die skool bekend as die Afrikaansmedium Hoërskool van Kimberley. Die volgende jaar is die naam verander na Diamantveld-Hoërskool, ‘n streeknaam, en nie die verheerliking van een of ander persoon nie. Die skool het vir baie jare as Diamantveld-Hoërskool (DHS) bekend gestaan, maar die naam is later na die taalkundig korrekte skryfvorm, Hoërskool Diamantveld, verander
