HOME-START WOKINGHAM DISTRICT is a small charity offering compassionate and non-judgmental support to vulnerable and disadvantaged families with young children in the Wokingham borough. The parents we support are often single mums with mental health issues, disabilities, illness and/or isolation and who have little, if any, other support. They all have at least one child aged 4 or under.
Home-Start relies on a wonderful team of trained volunteers who go out into the community, visiting families in their homes each week and giving them the emotional and practical support they need to get them through a particularly tough time.
With our help and encouragement our families are able to face:
- their own mental health challenges such as anxiety and post-natal depression;
- the challenges of parenting toddlers with learning difficulties like autism/ADHD; and
- the practical difficulties of looking after multiple young children including twins and triplets.
Our overall aim is to support parents so that they grow in confidence as parents and are better equipped to give their children a better start in life. The feedback we receive from our families is that our regular home visiting and group support really helps improve the lives of our families.
