Since its inception in 1995, Hoop-Law has emerged as an annual event eagerly anticipated by the Vancouver legal community. This one-day basketball tournament is organized by downtown lawyers and UBC Law students and pits firm against firm in the name of raising funds to help local children in need. The full day of exciting hardwood action has teams, in both recreational and competitive divisions, battling on the court for top spot and bragging rights. However the real drive at the Hoop-Law Tournament is not to hoop but rather to help children in need who are living in our community. In the past, The Children’s Foundation, NightHoops, Covenant House, and the Vancouver School Board Hot Lunch Program have all been recipients of Hoop-Law funds. In 2017, the designated charities are Night Hoops, the Children’s Hearing and Speech Centre of BC, CLICK, and SUCCESS. The Hoop-Law Society would like to thank the players, the sponsors and the numerous UBC Law volunteers who make this annual tournament a huge success. The spirit of this amazing event is a testimony to the heart of those in the Vancouver legal community and we’re confident that by working together we can better the lives of children.
