HOPE Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus (HOPE-SBH): Transforming Lives, Advancing Inclusion
HOPE-SBH is Ethiopia’s first nonprofit dedicated to preventing spina bifida and hydrocephalus (SBH), supporting affected families, and promoting disability inclusion. As a women-led, disability-focused organization, we advocate for policy change, healthcare access, and social empowerment.
What We Do:
✅ Prevention & Awareness – Advocating for food fortification to combat micronutrient deficiencies, especially folic acid deficiency linked to birth defects. We engage policymakers, health professionals, and the public in maternal nutrition education.
✅ Healthcare Access – Facilitating neurosurgeries, rehabilitation, and medical supplies for children with SBH by partnering with hospitals and specialists.
✅ Youth & Parent Empowerment – Providing counseling, mentorship, and skills-building programs. Our parent network connects caregivers for peer support and advocacy.
✅ Advocacy & Policy Influence – Collaborating with governments, UN partners, and donors to shape policies on disability rights, inclusive healthcare, and social protection.
✅ Humanitarian Integration – Ensuring disability-inclusive emergency responses in humanitarian efforts.
✅ Strategic Partnerships – Working with corporate, NGO, and research partners to improve healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities.
