Horizons Trust's activities started in 2013. Founder Professor James N’Dow OBE DL is the driving force behind the charity. Born in The Gambia, James trained in Aberdeen, UK, where he is now Professor of Urological Surgery and Director of the Academic Urology Unit. James has travelled to The Gambia every year for almost the past two decades, with other UK-trained specialist consultant surgeons, anaesthetists, and nurses, to carry out charitable work at a local hospital.
On his earliest trips back to The Gambia, James was troubled by the state of maternal and infant health in the country. He then made it his mission to create a charitable organisation dedicated to lowering Gambia’s maternal and infant mortality rates.
Since the inception of Horizons Trust, we have partnered with the Ministry of Health and several national and international partners to help make this dream a reality. An outstanding team of trustees, including experts in global health, oversee the running of the charity.
