The Human Centered Mechatronics (HCM) Lab is a pioneering research facility dedicated to biomechanical and rehabilitation technologies, equipped with advanced tools for comprehensive analysis of human movement and neurological response.key resources include the Qualisys Motion Capture and AMTI Force Platform systems for detailed gait analysis, including projects such as stair ascending studies. The lab also integrates Delsys Trigno EMG systems for hand kinematics and muscle dataset collection, EEG systems for real-time brain activity monitoring, and Cosmed K5 for metabolic cost studies.
HCM also operates both FDM and SLA 3D printers for rapid prototyping and employs a portable 3D scanner for reverse engineering and creating custom-made patient sockets. In addition, the lab manages a rehabilitation exoskeleton designed to assist spinal cord injury patients in regaining mobility. To streamline data analysis, HCM has developed a system to synchronize data from motion capture, EMG, EEG, and K5 devices, aimed at supporting future clinical studies.
All lab equipment is generously funded by the Science and Technology Development Fund (STDF).
