The DCS HCI Lab is dedicated to advancing the field of human-computer interaction through cutting-edge research interests persuasive technology, extended reality, artificial intelligence, and speech technologies. We have developed various persuasive applications in extended reality for education, fitness, road safety, stress & anxiety.
Our mission is to design and develop culturally relevant persuasive, accessible, inclusive, and impactful technological solutions that leverages AI to address real-world challenges in low-resource settings. We are pioneering the advancement of language technologies for low-resource languages:
i. We are currently developing a dataset of non-standard speech and transcriptions for Automatic Speech recognition (ASR) models in the Akan language.
ii. We have created datasets for Neural Machine Translation (including ASR & TTS) in Ghanaian Languages (Akan, Ewe, Ikposo, Daagare, & Dagbani, Baoulé). The dataset includes 5000 hours of audio recordings in these languages and 500 hours of transcription. This dataset is open source and available for research purposes only (https://doi.org/10.57760/sciencedb.22298).
