Human Science UK

Human Science is the scientific study of humans and humanity that probes the unique quiddity of individual experience while examining the genetically encoded foundations of our species. It studies the origin of our communities and the evolution of our behaviour, the lucidity of our cognitions and the volatility of our emotions, the dynamics of our public interactions and the themes of our private contemplations. Human Science endeavours to discover rhyme and reason in what we think and feel, say and do. While Human Science necessarily integrates a diverse matrix of disciplines, from anthropology and ecology to neurobiology and linguistics, it is first and foremost a psychology. In many ways, Human Science seeks to contemporize the western tradition of psychology, integrating advancements made since its scope was first articulated at the end of the nineteenth century. These include not only fruits of progress in the biological sciences, but also informed insights into cultural diversity and ecological dynamics, which encompass the principles of indigenous science, preserved by communities beyond the boundaries of a colonial western frontier. Yet in seeking to scientifically study the nature of humans and humanity, we are inherently obligated to acknowledge the limitations of quantifiable data upon which evidence depends. For there is a subjective dimension integral to human experience that evades measurement and reduction to binary data, expressible only through the experiential languages of imagery. The Human Science project endeavours to envision an approach to psychology that encompasses quantitative and qualitative, empirical and experiential modes of interpreting the nature of homo sapiens, while developing a language of diversity that speaks for humans and humanity without assigning unexamined privilege or prejudice to any member or group within the species.
