Launched in 1993, Hurley Foundation works hand in hand with people across Mid-Michigan, Great Lakes Region and Thumb, to support the destination hospitals of this region - Hurley Medical Center and Hurley Children’s Hospital. Together we are transforming healthcare through academic and clinical excellence while valuing a mission of Service to People. A 501c3 nonprofit organization, Hurley Foundation explores innovative ways to elevate the patient experience so you can heal faster, provides cutting-edge technology that improves your odds of recovery and generates frontline support for health care heroes of these teaching hospitals. Founded in 1908, Hurley Medical Center originated with a bequest of land and $55,000 from James J. Hurley to the City of Flint to build a hospital for all citizens, “regardless of their ability to pay.” Hurley Medical Center receives no city tax dollars and is entirely self-supporting. It is the source of care for 65% of the area’s Medicaid clients and most of the area’s unemployed/uninsured. It provides over $17 million of uncompensated care to those with little or no health insurance each year. When families need specialized care, expertise and miracles they seek out the beacon of health care in our region. There is comfort in knowing the only teaching hospital in 15 counties is leading treatment and technology to give children the best chance of recovery, regardless of their family's ability to pay. As a Children's Miracle Network hospital, that critical support not only guarantees families access to care, but access to that highest level of care they expect when only the best will do.
