Periodic droughts are drying up reservoirs in Latin America's many hydro-dominated power systems, and these droughts are now being magnified further by climate change. Add to this, increasing shares of variable renewable resources are being integrated into the region's power grids.
For these reasons, it is vital to increase the reliability, efficiency, and flexibility of the region’s transmission systems.
The region’s national electricity regulators also recognize this need and are embarking on some of the most ambitious transmission infrastructure tenders in their countries’ histories.
