Our collective formed as a result of an artist symposium in 2022. Together, we are currently establishing a project looking at rhizomatic ways of working and collaborating across locations and disciplines. Consisting of both male and female practitioners with four different ethnicities, our starting point is multifaceted and entails a variation of backgrounds, reference points and opinions. Together we collaborate through the use of these various lenses and focal points, attempting to offer a layered interpretation of the topics at hand. The core mission of our collaboration has from the beginning been to bridge theory and practice, and to learn from the skills and expertise of each other. The central research point of the collective is speculative realism, a branch of contemporary philosophy touching upon a wide range of topics such as climate change, feminism, non-human agencies and quantum mechanics. As a contemporary philosophy, Speculative Realism questions traditional human-centered views and how we connect with the world. It looks beyond the influence of God or the divine in our post-human era and instead focuses on non-human-centered perspective. It also criticises the idea that our perceptions limit our understanding of the world. This philosophy explores the idea that everything, not just human consciousness, has a significant place in the universe. It dives into concepts like Rhizome and Body without Organs (BwOs), examines the ethical issues tied to post-humanism, trans-humanism, and anti-humanism, and uses ideas from quantum mechanics, like hyperobjects, non-locality, and agential realism, to understand the nature of reality at the smallest scales.
