Hyperloop India

Team Hyperloop India is a non-profit multi-stakeholder consortium of 60+ student volunteers & organisations interested in reinventing transportation in India. Founded in August 2015 as BITS Hyperloop by Sibesh Kar, a student of BITS Pilani, it was the only fully-funded Indian team among the 120 teams selected from all over the world to present their designs at the 2016 SpaceX Hyperloop Design Weekend. Hyperloop India has now expanded to constitute students and faculty from the top engineering and business schools of the country—namely BITS Pilani, Indian School of Business and IIM-Ahmedabad—consulting with transportation, logistics, infrastructure and data experts from organizations like RITES, NITI Aayog, DP World India & SocialCops. Our efforts come at a time when Ministry of Railways, Government of India has announced the Mission 350 Plus initiative(in July 2016), a bold step to slowly phase out the legacy transport infrastructure of the colonial rule in India, and introduce levitation based technology that can reach speeds of more than 350 kmph, in order to accommodate India’s growing infrastructure demands. As a primarily student collaboration, our plan is to leverage our performance in global incentive prize competitions to create a nationalistic competitive impulse to bring high-speed transport systems like the Hyperloop to the country, via a three-fold game plan – Design, Plan & Implement: 1. Design : To Design and Manufacture India’s first indigenously built safe, scalable and feasible Hyperloop pod prototype for the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod Competition 2. Plan : To Formulate an economic, transport, legal and policy case study for such technology to be deployed in the country for the Hyperloop One Global Challenge 3. Implement : To engage and create an eco-system of stakeholders in India with the willpower to advance, appraise, approve and regulate the advent of the Hyperloop in India
