Jasquiat

Jasquiat is a singer, songwriter, poet, model, social entrepreneur and cultural anthropologist. He represents a new wave of millennial creative entrepreneur hybrids focusing on representation and ownership. He was born and raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts to a mother of Afro-Caribbean and Afro-Latino heritage who immigrated to the US from The Bahamas as a teen, and a father of Native American and African heritage from Alabama. Jasquiat’s acumen includes modeling, fashion styling, mixed media art, creative activism and magazine publishing. Growing up his household was filled with vinyls from legends such as Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Mahalia Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley and Gregory Isaacs. Brazilian icons such Sergio Mendes, Tim Maia, Jorge Ben Jor and African icons such as Mariam Makeba, Fela Kuti and Salif Keita exposed the young Jasquiat to international sounds and rhythms that stirred his soul. Latin icons such as Celia Cruz, Gran Combo, Buena Vista Social Club, and Silvio Rodriguez further inspired Jasquiat to write poetry and sing as a form of creative expression. In January 2020, Jasquiat released his debut single titled, Wild Times, a poetic reflection on the current state of the world, that serves as an anthem of empowerment and social change. He moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico at the end of 2018 to work on his music career. Musically, Jasquiat seeks to blend melodic sounds of world, folk and soul with conscious lyricism. - Casa Jetset Serve
