Our members are mainly German and Indonesian professionals and academics working and living in Germany. In addition, we are open to other nationalities who share our common goals: (1) to deepen the bilateral relations between Germany and Indonesia, (2) to strengthen the exchange and cooperation between the two countries, and (3) to promote the further development and innovative capacity of both countries through our work.
IASI was founded in 1976 in Bonn by Prof. Dr. Ing. BJ. Habibie, RWTH alumnus and honorary citizen. Habibie was President of Indonesia in 1998 and 1999 and implemented important reforms to pave the way from a decades-long dictatorship to Indonesian democracy.
IASI is a registered association in Hamburg. We are a non-profit organization and independent of any party or religion.
