About ICAN Autism

Researchers at the Irish Centre for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Research (ICAN) are dedicated to using interdisciplinary, rigorous scientific methods, to advance knowledge of autism and neurodevelopmental disorders. NUI Galway is a partner in an EU consortium of researchers to whom the European Commission has awarded funding as part of the Horizon 2020 program. The project GEMMA (Genome, Environment, Microbiome, and Metabolome in Autism) is a ground-breaking autism research project which aims to develop a greater understanding of the relationship between autism and gastrointestinal symptoms. The project will provide regular autism assessments for infants from 0-36 months of age, who are siblings of children with autism.
