In 2012, Dr. Lourdes A. Medina started IDDEAS as an interdisciplinary research team at the Department of Industrial Engineering (IE) of the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez (UPRM). The objective is to foster the development of undergraduate and graduate students from various engineering fields, through mentorship and both research and professional opportunities. IDDEAS research topics are: Product Design and Development, Medical Devices, Regulations, Healthcare Engineering, Decision Analysis, Process Control and Automation, and Engineering Education. Engineering Education is studied from the perspective of outreach to minorities with a focus on women recruitment, retention and progression.
