About IDEA-IRL
IDEA-IRL (Integrated Design of Floating Wind Arrays Ireland) is an R&D project funded by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) designed in tune with IEA Task 49. The IDEA-IRL project's overarching goal is to hasten the sustainable growth of floating offshore wind arrays (FOWA) both nationally and internationally. This will be achieved by building on key background knowledge and coordinating and leveraging the international FOWA research effort within the context of sponsored IEA Task 49. Specific aim include: • Deliver a set of fully specified reference sites that reflect the characteristics of the international floating wind deployment pipeline, encompassing all pertinent technical, social, environmental, and financial aspects. • Deliver a set of floating wind array reference designs that are fully configurable, open source, and include cost and environmental effect models along with important engineering tool input files. • Deliver a framework for failure mode, effects, and criticality analysis (FMECA) for floating wind arrays, taking coupled and cascade into account. • Engage with international groups to develop innovations for the floating wind energy industry; categorise innovations based on their multidisciplinary impact and ensure reference farms and/or sites have the required functionality for development. • Engage with international bodies on Marine Spatial Planning to collect open research questions and concerns. Wherever possible, provide direct responses; otherwise, ensure that the reference sites and reference farms are defined in such a manner that they enable the required research. • Use Task 49 to offer policy recommendations and development pathways for the Irish supply chain. •Implement a multimodal communications strategy to raise awareness of floating wind energy technology, research and expertise in Ireland.
