IF Initiative

Both the low-carbon transition and adaptation to climate change are unavoidable challenges businesses will face in the long run. These challenges will arise in a chaotic and uncertain way, and will disrupt both companies’ operations and markets. The IF initiative is aimed at both companies and their stakeholders. Its purpose is to design a new generation of tools and methods to support corporate strategic thinking upgrade: • Systemic and sectorized "framework" scenarios, suited to the companies’ needs, that will explore different climatic, technological and sociological pathways. They will also describe the possible transformations along the value chains in line with the planetary boundaries (resources availability, environment feedback loop, etc.) that are now well documented ; • Guidance related to the understanding and use of scenarios for strategic thinking via a dedicated skills upgrade platform : “the Scenarios Lab” ; Companies must take the lead in thinking with courage and lucidity about the upcoming deep transformations of our economy. Such a mobilization of businesses will enable us to build a common and opposable framework for strategic planning in order to rationally and courageously assess the transformations of our society and economy. For any company, it is a matter of sustainability and prosperity. The IF initiative is thus an essential complement to the normative approaches of "alignment" on a 2°C (or less) pathway. Designed with transparency, all of the IF initiative’s deliverables will be open source. The IF Initiative partners will join efforts to ensure a wide diffusion and to raise enthusiasm and contributions from both economic and academic players.
