The Institut für Museumsforschung is a research and documentation institute of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin with a nationwide mandate and field of activities.
Since 1979, it has fulfilled a wide range of tasks both within the Stiftung Preußischer Kulturbesitz and the scope of its national mandate with regard to networking, researching and surveying the German and international museum landscape.
The Institut für Museumsforschung is committed to the national and international museum community. It conducts research with and about museums of all kinds, develops new formats and collects data on the museum landscape in Germany. In doing so, it contributes the following cross-thematic areas of expertise: Research with & about museums, communicating & negotiating knowledge, developing standards & promoting digital networking, collecting & evaluating data.
