There's so much to tell about what iinouiio are doing with textile recycling, much of which we were doing over thirty years ago. So, what happened to us back then, why we are back and what we are doing now.
Our name iinouiio is inspired by what we do. It is an acronym for ‘it is never over until it is over’ because like the wool we recycle we’ll never be over. 30 years ago, we were doing this as ‘Evergreen’ but after a break, we are back.
iinouiio is a demonstration of what is possible with wool and cashmere recycling in the UK. Grown from the passion of its founders to repurpose old textiles using traditional techniques this is our first batch of reclaimed wool, made with love.
We recycle the knitwear that people in the UK throw away. All the buttons, labels and linings are removed – we find creative uses for these too. The knitwear is then sorted into shades to recycle the colour along with the fibre, bypassing the need for dyeing. The shades are then shredded (we call it ‘pulled’) back to semi-fibrous condition ready for blending. After blending (to mix all the fibres) the fibre is then carded and then is spun into yarn. iinouiio yarn can be knitted or woven, making beautiful products from recycled fibres to start a new life all over again.
iinouiio always welcomes collaboration whether you’re a specialist eco-wholesaler, small-scale designer or artisan. This might include working with the current iinouiio collection or bespoke initiatives.
