Dutch fashion designer, Ilja Visser, embarked on her career in fashion by attending the School of Arts in Arhem, the Netherlands. Studying fashion design led her to New York for internships at Donna Karan and Maria Cornejo where she acquired her fine skills of tailoring. Upon graduation in 2001, Ilja moved to Milan, Italy to further discover the foundation of fashion, textiles, and design. Launching her first namesake couture line, ILJA, in 2005, Ilja was able to express her own conceptual vision and artistic approach to fashion. A couture line with distinguishing sculptural tailoring and elaborate technical skill with high regard to impeccable craftsmanship in tailoring, fabric manipulation and influence of contemporary innovations, her collections exhibit an organic and sculptural distinction.
In 2015, ILJA made her official debut in the highest fashion league when the label got invited by Fédération Française de la Couture in Paris to present her FW 15/16 couture collection INGENIUM EXISTERE on their official haute couture calendar. And in January 2016 ILJA presented her SS 16 couture collection ASSIMILA in Paris, her second time as an invitee on the official haute couture calendar.
