When the first settlers arrived in Australia they were without a traditional form of currency, Rum reigned supreme as Australia’s form of tender, it was bartered with and used as a form of payment for all types of workers. Many famous Australian landmarks of this time, were bought and built with Rum as the main currency. With this form of trading being normal it was not without its disadvantages.
This practice continued for many years before an official form of Tender was introduced and so began the Great Rum Rebellion which sought to bring the form of rum as a 'legal tender' no more.
This story is where we have taken our name from as a homage to our history as Australians.
