Since being established in 1987, ILLUME has completed more than 100 documentary and fiction features as well as factual TV series and experimental short films. ILLUME's films feature regularly in domestic and international festivals and they have won a number of prestigious awards worldwide. The company invests in developing entertaining, emotionally engaging films that spark debate about the society and politics in the world today. ILLUME is unique in the way it invests in new talent and co-productions. ILLUME has a wealth of experience of productions in Finland as well as internationally in the Soviet Union and Russia, China, the US, the Baltic region, Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, Africa and India. In 2016 ILLUME received the Apollo Award which is given out to an individual or organisation that has significantly promoted Finnish documentary film and has distinguished themselves in the field of documentary film making. The award is handed out by the DocPoint Helsinki Documentary Film Festival and the Finnish Broadcasting company Yle. ILLUME has received the European Union MEDIA development slate funding four times: in 2003, 2010, 2012 and 2015.
