The Imbeleko, Dr Seni Myeni Foundation was founded in 2010 by former banker, Sbusisiwe Myeni “Sbu”; to address the educational crisis in her childhood rural community of the Valley of 1000 Hills, South Africa. It was initially targeted at orphaned children raised by grandparents but has grown to include all socially-marginalised talented kids with high academic potential. Sbu established Imbeleko Foundation as a legacy project to honour a pact she made with her late Medical Doctor twin sister, Seni to “pay-it-forward” to the next generation in their community. They were scholarship beneficiaries from the age of 11, receiving an education their parents could not afford. Seni died of a brain tumor in 2006 at age 31 and entrusted Sbu to build their legacy by empowering vulnerable children and youth through Education. Its vision is to provide a world-class experience that empowers the rural child that enters our Digital AfterSchool Academy by providing an integrated support system of education, mentoring, and social support in rural communities in the Valley of 1000 Hills, KZN - through our blended school in partnership with UCTOHS, Afterschool STEM Programmes; Boarding School and University Scholarships; Wellness, Character and Leadership Development. Incl.Mentoring, Tech and Practical Skills Development.
