El Instituto IMDEA Agua es una iniciativa de la Comunidad de Madrid para llevar a cabo una labor investigadora de excelencia y para aportar los elementos de innovación necesaria en un sector estratégico como es el agua. En el Instituto se ponen en común conocimientos propios de las ciencias experimentales, de las ciencias jurídicas y sociales y de la ingeniería con el objetivo de generar la actividad multidisciplinar necesaria que supone abordar la gestión del agua en este siglo XXI. La formación de científicos y profesionales es también primordial para IMDEA Agua. Organizando y colaborando en programas de doctorado, masteres y cursos diversos se contribuye a devolver a la sociedad el esfuerzo realizado en sostener el Instituto.
