The Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS) is an autonomous institution under the Government of Kerala. It is one of the institutions selected by the Govt. of India to develop into a centre of excellence in mental health. IMHANS is a postgraduate training centre affiliated to the Kerala University of Health Sciences (KUHS) with its campus in the Govt. Medical College campus at Kozhikode and functions in close collaboration with the Govt. Medical College, Kozhikode. The institute is active in mental health care delivery, training, research and policy development. IMHANS conduct 4 Adult OP units (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) and 6 Child OP Units (Monday to Saturday). IMHANS provides mental health services for children, adolescents, adults and geriatric population. IMHANS offers the following M.Phil courses: M.Phil in Clinical Psychology M.Phil Clinical Psychology is a two-year full-time course affiliated to the KUHS with an intake of 8 students per year. The course is recognised by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI), and IMHANS is the only centre in the Govt. sector in Kerala to conduct M.Phil in Clinical Psychology. M.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work IMHANS is the pioneer institute under government sector in Kerala and the second institute in South India to start M.Phil course in Psychiatric Social Work during the academic year 2014-16. It is a two year full time course characterized by supervised intensive clinical training in psychiatric social work. Post Basic Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing The Post Basic Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing was started in 2015-16 with intake of 10 students. This is one year fulltime course. The course is recognized by the Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council and is first of its kind in government sector in Kerala and is designed to strengthen the knowledge and skill of registered nurses to render quality care to the mentally ill.
