India is on the brink of phenomenal growth in cold chain market with a current market value of INR 1585.1 Billion in 2021. Looking forward, IMARC Group expects the market to reach INR 3637.4 Billion by 2027, exhibiting a CAGR of 14.72% during 2022-2027. India is currently the world’s largest producer of milk, second largest producer of fruits and vegetables and has a substantial production of marine, meat and poultry products. Most of these products are temperature sensitive and require specific temperature ranges to be stored and transported. This has resulted in the establishment of a very large cold chain infrastructure in the country. The cold chain technology is increasingly gaining traction as they are utilized for horticultural produce, which requires the products to be handled at chilled and mild chilled zones. The market is primarily driven by the increasing consumption of temperature-sensitive products, including fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy, meat, and poultry products. Due to a lack of cold chain infrastructure at the farm-gate and transportation levels, which is mainly increasing the capacity of cold storage solutions at an aggregate level. High energy consumptions increase a health system’s operational costs and are detrimental to the environment. It is therefore crucial to focus on energy efficiency to ensure that medical institutions using cold chain equipment are sustainable.
