About Indigo Africa
At Indigo Africa, we are committed to strengthening the aquaculture and animal nutrition sectors to address food and nutrition insecurity. We focus on developing climate-resilient and circular food systems based on regenerative agriculture principles. By utilizing insights from research and field experiments, we streamline and simplify food production, increase productivity, and make aquaculture more competitive and accessible across Sub-Saharan Africa. Our mission centres on empowering smallholder fish farmers — key drivers of food security and rural livelihoods accounting for over 80% of food production — by solving challenges that militate against their growth. Through our vertically integrated operations, we significantly improve yields and operational efficiency while reducing post-harvest losses. Our approach includes: Optimized input supply: Improving feed conversion ratios and disseminating quality seed and broodstock. Technical assistance: Equipping farmers with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in an evolving sector. Financial and micro-insurance services: Accelerating financial inclusion to unlock capital, support business growth, and mitigate risk. Market access: Linking farmers with value chain participants to ensure fair pricing and consistent demand. Through these efforts, Indigo Africa creates dignified and fulfilling work opportunities, especially for women and youth. We aim to double food production in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030, enabling resilient communities and driving systemic change in the aquaculture sector that contributes meaningfully to regional and global food security goals.
