In tune with the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' policy announced by the Hon'ble Prime Minister, a project for supporting development of new rubber plantations in North East and improving quality of processed rubber was conceptualised under the guidance and active mentoring of Mr Piyush Goyal, Hon'ble Minister for Commerce and Industry, Government of India. The project intends to develop rubber plantations in 200,000 hectares (ha) spread over 7 North Eastern states (Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura) and West Bengal. This collaborative project in PPP mode involving tyre majors and Rubber Board is a unique and landmark initiative and the first of its kind in the country where the consuming industry is working hand in hand with agencies involved with production of Natural Rubber, with the goal of increasing the availability of good quality raw material within the country.
