About INSET
The increase in the average temperature of the planet due to rising CO2 emissions, the pressure on natural resource extraction or the increasing production of waste are, nowadays, some of the major environmental issues of humanity. New way of producing are therefore needed to address these issues. Circular Economy (CE) is one of the new practices that is defined as a logical and viable way to overcome these problems by creating new business models based on sustainability and environmentally friendly actions. Moreover, according to the Circular Gap Report 2023, the world today is only 7.2% circular, a percentage that is getting worse year by year due to increased extraction and use of materials. Industrial Symbiosis (IS) is a circular business opportunity for eco-innovation and its implementation can lead to lower production costs while in parallel creating environmental and social benefits for the companies involved. Subsequently, IS is an enabling factor that could achieve green growth and accelerate the implementation of CE, as underlined in EU strategies such as the CE Action Plan, the Green Deal Industrial Plan or the EU Mission 1 (adaptation to climate change). INSET project, co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme, aims to enable the implementation of this circular business model happen, through a disruptive, digital and pragmatic capacity building approach for companies and related stakeholders. To achieve this goal, INSET will implement 4 deliverables: - a Capacity Building Methodology for boosting IS - an Online Toolkit to increase the knowledge and awareness on IS - an Open Access Observatory gathering all needed information (legislation, training courses etc.) - a Policy Brief Report with the IS challenges of the Policy Makers. INSET consortium consists of 6 members: The University of Strasbourg (coordinator), CETEM - Centro Technológico del Mueble y la Madera, Sistemi Formativi Confindustria, RRA Podravje - Maribor, Símbiosy and Syxis.
