The mission is to make Hong Kong a major long-term contributor in Network Coding, a fast-growing major research field co-founded by Hong Kong researchers, through the establishment of the Institute of Network Coding in Hong Kong. The deliverables are:
- To build in Hong Kong a world-leading Network Coding centre by maintaining a world-class research team with comprehensive expertise covering all areas of Network Coding
- To train PhDs and postdoctoral researchers at a quality level employable by top universities around the world.
- To collaborate with industry on Network Coding based architecture/prototypes in order to create completely new technologies in Internet Backbone, scalable video coding, IPTV, and other applications.
- To discover, through Network Coding, new directions in mathematics with important long-term impacts.
