Interact District 3012

Interact is a global organization that promotes leadership, responsible citizenship, international understanding, and peace. It is a club specifically designed for young individuals aged 12-18 who are interested in connecting with others in their community or school. The name "Interact" was derived by combining the words "international" and "action," reflecting the organization's commitment to both global engagement and active participation. Interact clubs are sponsored by Rotary clubs and provide young people with the opportunity to engage in service projects while also learning about the world. These clubs organize a minimum of two service projects annually: one that benefits their local community and another that encourages international understanding. While Interact clubs receive guidance from Rotary clubs, they are self-governing entities and are included in Rotary International's "Youth Services" Avenue of Service. With a presence in over 120 countries and geographical areas, Interact has a membership of more than 250,000 youth across 11,000 clubs. Countries such as Brazil, India, the Philippines, and the United States have the highest number of Interact clubs, showcasing the widespread reach and impact of the organization. The first Interact club was established in 1962 at Melbourne High School, initiated by Harold T. Thomas. This inaugural club had 23 members and laid the foundation for the growth and success of Interact as a platform for young individuals to make a positive difference in their communities and the world.
