About International Waste Platform
Collective impact : stakeholder networks from 31 countries united to collaborate on Ocean Action, Climate Action, addressing pollution from land-based, riverine and marine-based sources and advancing Circular Economy development. Our collective expertise is insights in: Country specific information regarding waste and pollution Multi-sector stakeholder network within our countries Efforts to solve the waste crisis International collaboration Partners for progress in International Waste Platform was initiated in March 2018 in San Diego by participants from the following countries: Indonesia, Portugal, Australia, South Africa (regional), USA, Germany, Canada, New Zealand, Taiwan and Ghana. Objectives Representatives committed themselves to align objectives, to support the implementation of strategies of Ocean Action and Climate Action, as well as to share ideas, best practices, concepts, programs, knowledge and opportunities; including the reduction of plastic debris at the source, before it enters rivers and the coastal environment. Mapping of stakeholders and stakeholder groups and their programs; Promoting and facilitating cross-sector collaborations and facilitate advancing synergy in agendas; Capacity building of stakeholders; Campaigning to promote reduction of single-use plastics use and implementation of alternative delivery models Lobby for inclusion of environmental education in national curricula to advance waste and climate change literacy; Lobby for mandatory international standardisation of recycling information on packaging and bins and mandatory recyclability verification; Lobby for transparency in the recycling sector Stakeholder engagement in national and international action plans and strategies; Promote the forming of such national action plans and strategies in countries/regions which not yet have developed these; Country/ regional specific activities; Responding to the call for action on SDG17.
