Ipso Facto Films develops, produces, co-produces and finances films that are quality productions with international potential. Founded in 1993 by Christine Alderson, Ipso Facto Films has produced and/or co-produced over 10 feature films and over 50 short films and documentaries. The company has formed solid relationships with like-minded independent production companies over the years in the UK and beyond, having made films in partnership with France, Belgium, Germany, Holland, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain and Brazil. Highlights include the European Film Award nominee IRINA PALM (dir. Sam Garbarski) starring Marianne Faithfull, VALHALLA RISING (dir. Nicolas Winding Refn) starring Mads Mikkelsen and the soon to be released SOULBOY (dir. Shimmy Marcus) starring Martin Compston, Felicity Jones, Huey Morgan and Pat Shortt. The company looks for exceptional stories told with a distinctive voice, vision and passion. In 2007 Ipso Facto Films established MOXIE MAKERS a more genre led label in order to further its ambitions and to be at the forefront of developing new talent alongside cutting edge technology and distribution. In 2008 Moxie Makers ran the Skillset supported scheme The Big Pitch, a dynamic competition where the UK’s most talented, up and coming filmmakers pitched their film ideas to win the largest feature film production prize in the UK. The winning project DIFFERENT SHADES OF GRAHAM will be produced by Ipso Facto Films in 2010. Moxie Makers had two films on UK release in 2009: WHO KILLED NANCY, a feature documentary investigating whether Sid Vicious of the Sex Pistols really did stab his girlfriend Nancy Spungen, was released theatrically in the UK in February 2009, and MAD SAD & BAD, an asian comedy from BAFTA nominated and Oscar shortlisted writer-director Avie Luthra, premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival 2009 and followed with a UK theatrical release in July 2009. The company has offices in London and Newcastle.
