Irish Federation of University Women

The Irish Federation of University Women (IrFUW) is an all Ireland network of associations of 3rd level women graduates regardless of where in the world they graduated. Our purpose is to bring together University Women in Ireland to uphold the aims of Graduate Women International (GWI) formerly the International Federation of University Women. The GWI is the leading women’s global organisation run by and for women, for women’s rights, equality and empowerment through access to quality education and training up to the highest levels. In Ireland there are Associations currently established within 4 Universities; University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, NUI Galway & Queen’s University Belfast. The Aims and Mission of our organisation are: To promote understanding and friendship among the university women of the world, irrespective of race, nationality, religion or political opinions To encourage international cooperation To further the development of education To represent university women in international organisations To encourage the full application of women’s knowledge and skills at all levels of public life, whether nationally, regionally or worldwide. To raise the profile of our Federation to all women involved in third level education in Ireland in the pre and post graduate stages of their academic journey. To speak out and lobby for Human Rights which impact on women. To support Women graduates through friendship and social events in order to stay associated with academic life and remain aware of the challenges facing current undergraduates. Our Vision To make our international aim of ‘Education for All Girls and Women’ a reality in our world, because we believe that education gives women the ability and right to make choices about their own lives and that women should have the right to and expect equality in all relationships. We believe in the old saying: ‘Educate a woman and you educate a family’
